A Step-By-Step Guide With TLC Dental

Welcome to the beginning of your orthodontic treatment journey with TLC Dental! We understand that starting orthodontic treatment can be a significant step, and we are here to guide you through the process with care and expertise.

The Initial Consultation

Your journey with us starts with a thorough initial consultation. During this visit, our experienced orthodontists will conduct a comprehensive examination of your teeth, jaw, and overall oral health. We will take the time to listen to your concerns and answer any questions you may have. This is also an opportunity for you to discuss your treatment goals and expectations.

How Aligners Work

First, we’ll take a 3D scan of your teeth. Then we create a digital treatment plan that we modify to make sure your teeth will end up in the right place. These scans are then transferred to a production facility and your aligners are printed. The number of aligners needed depends on your level of crowding and teeth displacement.

The Treatment Cycle

Aligners work on a one to two-week cycle, meaning you’ll be changing your aligner semi-frequently. This is because each aligner is limited to a small amount of movement to make sure your teeth are moving like we want them to. Smaller movements also reduce the pain from big adjustments. Each day, you’ll ideally wear your aligner for about 22 hours. You’ll remove them when you eat or drink anything other than water. While small and soft foods can seem harmless, eating while wearing your aligners is risky. Food can damage the trays or stain the thin plastic. Once the stain has set, it’s very hard to remove without damaging your aligner.

Your orthodontist or dentist will monitor the movement by checking in on the fit of your aligners approximately every 8 weeks.

How To Look After Your Aligners

Maintaining good oral hygiene is essential during orthodontic treatment. You should always rinse your aligners after removing them (but not in hot water as this could warp the plastic). Try to brush and floss before putting them in, but if this isn’t possible, rinse your mouth out. When not wearing your aligners, you’ll want to store them in your case and clean them with a denture cleaning solution to prevent stains or odours. Following these steps will help ensure your treatment is smooth and you get the best possible results.
